About Us

Havruta opened as a learning pod in Fall 2023 and currently serves students in Pre-K through early elementary.  Our program is located on an idyllic property in Austin, TX.

Havruta is committed to academic excellence, Torah Judaism, and Hebrew fluency.  Our pedagogy embraces classical education, individualized, mastery-based learning, and language immersion. We aim to equip students with a strong grasp of the foundational ideas, stories, and texts of Judaism and Western civilization, and we aspire to prepare our students to lead lives of purpose and civic leadership.

Our pre-K and Kindergarten program is full Hebrew immersion, and our elementary students continue to spend a large percentage of the day in Hebrew immersion classes.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field from a fully accredited college 
  • A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the elementary school level; strong classroom management skills  
  • Ability to conduct class in Hebrew for Novice level students.
  • Comfortable in a startup environment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills for lesson planning
  • Strong classroom management abilities
  • Ability to create a positive and nurturing learning environment.  
  • Commitment to fostering character development, and a love of learning.  
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and administrators to support student success.

Responsibilities

We are currently accepting applications for a Hebrew Elementary Teacher (Grades 1-2). The teacher will utilize a combination of iTalam curriculum and a specially designed curriculum to teach Hebrew language and literature, Chumash and Judaic studies, history, geography, nature studies, and math, all in Hebrew.   We invite applicants who are aligned with a traditional Jewish world view, who love and value children, demonstrate excellent character, are committed to our core values and unafraid of rigorous education, and are eager to bring classical texts and pedagogy into the classroom.

This position has the following responsibilities:

  • Teach all Hebrew language subjects (Hebrew language and literature, Chumash and Judaic studies, history, geography, nature studies, and math) to a split-level class of approximately twelve Grade 1 and 2 students.  
  • Develop and maintain a culture where students approach learning with joy, initiative, and respect for their teachers and classmates.
  • Inspire students to discover wisdom, truth, and beauty in their surroundings.
  • Foster curiosity, memory, imitation of greatness, and rational thinking by helping children to memorize classical texts and by creating meaningful learning experiences.
  • Engage in professional development with the Lobel Center for Jewish Classical Education and other like-minded educational bodies.  
  • Respect and uphold our core values, limited technology policy, and  
  • Engage in record-keeping, assessments, parent communication, and other associated tasks as the job may require.
